Black Hawk Down- 100 page update

Well, here we go again. Now I am at page 100 in the book Black Hawk Down. This book, which is much better than the movie, covers the individual soldiers and their stories. It is a pretty easy read but, due to the individual stories, it will be harder to write about. So, the Rangers had just roped in. At the very beginning the troops could tell that there was much more shooting than there had been in any previous missions.
The book brings us through each Chalk's story as we read. From Nelson shooting a Somali for the first time to the small convoy of Humvees on their way back to base to bring the wounded Blackburn to safety. In this race back to the barracks, Dominick Pilla is shot and killed. He is the first casualty of the operation and not the last. There are also flashbacks of life at the hanger for soldiers such as Clay Othic who spent most of his time pulling guard duty and writing home.
At Chalk Four's position, Sergeant Galentine got shot. Holding his severed finger in his hand the medic does what he can for such a wound. One of the soldiers, Diemer, soon taps Sergeant Eversmann on the back. When Eversmann turns around, Diemer tells him one the helicopters gets hit.
Cliff Elvis Wolcott is a pilot with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. He is one of the famed, highly secret special forces operatives in the U.S. Army, the soldiers are called the "Night Stalkers" due to their prefered enviroments, the darkness. Wolcott is the pilot of Super Six-One, a Black Hawk helicopter circling the target building. Soon the crew feels a bump and before long the aircraft is spinning uncontrably from the hit of an RPG. Everyone is stunned that a bird just got shot down. They were the tip of the spear, they were supposed to be invincible.
That is my update, there will be more to come!

  13. Hey, from what it looks like, this book is pretty good. it does seem alot more detailed than the movie. and you'll have to show some of you so called "Special Forces Black Ops operative" moves, cause i don't think you could take someone of my stature out very easily. Heard of Stonewall Jackson? well i'm like Reinforced Titanium Alloy Jackson. yeah thats right, there's no stopping me. and i would have to contradict your statement about an unparalleled IQ, becuase much to your disadvantage, my Intelligence Qotient excedes yours threefold, and thereby inducts me as superior to your so called "genius". oh yeah, and completely off subject about your inferiority, but when are you gonna get a facebook? you really oughta. then i wouldn't have to leave ridiculously long comments such as this one on your blog. and no offense meant in any of the above statements, just kiddin w/ ya. but anyways, i think that this post should count for all the posts that i need to have for this assignment because it is probably more than i'm going to write on anyone else's, and i did actually talk about his book a little bit. oh yeah, and if you're wondering "why in the world is ______ up at 2:15 in the morning?" then your answer would be that i foolishly decided to slug down a couple cups of coffee at around 12:30, for reasons unknown. but anyways, i'm just trying to fall asleep, which obviously is not proving effective in any which way, so i am commenting on your blog. you should've seen the comment i left on Flight 29 down's face book. it was VERY long. if you had a facebook you could probably look at it. but for any of you other's who may be laying eye upon this very post, and thinking that this person is stupid for being up so late or for other various reason's that i care not to go further into, i only advise that you are carefull to judge quickly, because i this kid Hannelore is pretty crazy, and he takes care of my light work, and those germans have ever so clever ways as to getting even with adversaries. but, i dare anyone reading this to post just as long of a comment, they are really quite interesting to read and is a good way to waste time if you feel the need to do so. but anyways back on subject. does the movie Black Hawk Down follow the story line pretty closely? or does it stray somewhat like so many other movies made from books do? if that is the case, then i might just have to read this book. From what it sounds like, its a pretty good book. you'll have to tell me more about it later.

  16. The movie is a little different than the book but for the most part they are pretty similar. When Jerry Brookheimer set out to make this movie he tried to stay as much to the story as possible. He wanted to honor the fallen Rangers and Delta.
